David Hallamore Seiniger of Westhampton Beach died November 12th, 1997 in Saint Francis Hospital, Roslyn, of heart and lung problems. He was 68. Mr. Seiniger was former president and chief executive officer of Marisa Christina, the sweater import division of Colgate Palmolive Company. He founded Marisa Christina in the early 1970s and, when it was bought by Colgate Palmolive in the 1980s, he continued to head it until his retirement in 1985. At the time of his death, he was a vestryman at St. Mark's Church in Westhampton Beach and a board member of the Westhampton Country Club, where he was a 14-handicap golfer. He also was a board member of the Family Counseling Service of Westhampton Beach and a bagpiper with the Eastern Long Island Police Pipes and Drums of Hampton Bays. His talents also included needlepoint. "He was a master needlepointer," his wife, Sandy Seiniger , said. "He saw me start my first needlepoint pillow about 25 years ago and said he bet he could do this. He was one of the fastest needlepointers I've ever seen. Besides pillows, he did six rugs. The biggest is in the hall and is seven by six feet. He used to say, 'It's stupid to just sit and watch TV without doing something .'" Mr. Seiniger began playing the bagpipes in 1992. He became a member of the Eastern Long Island Police Pipes and Drums in 1994. The band was proud to serve as an honor guard at his wake, and to play during his funeral service. |
